Bedford Borough Council is a unitary authority. It provides a vast range of services for over 169,500 residents and 67,000 homes in Bedford, Kempston and 45 rural parishes. The Council is one of only a handful of Councils in the country to have a Directly Elected Mayor, who has wide decision making powers and provides the political leadership of the Council.
