London Luton Airport
Gold Sponsor
London Luton Airport (LLA) is the UK’s fifth-largest airport and one of the fastest growing. As we continue to grow and develop, we believe that being a responsible business makes us a better business. The local community has been central to our success and will be an important part of our future too.
16.6 million Passengers travelled through the airport in 2018, making it our busiest year yet with local residents using LLA more than any other London airport. It’s important to us that our growth goes beyond the terminal building and brings benefits to the whole community, not just to local passengers. That’s why have been working hard over the past decade to ensure we make a positive social and economic contribution.
We will continue to play a growing role in driving the prosperity of the region, supporting directly and indirectly 9,400 jobs and attracting spending locally.
We are proud of our contribution to local charities through the airport’s Community Trust Fund. We have donated over £500,000 to community organisations since the fund began. It invites local charities and organisations to apply for the grants and we are delighted to have supported good causes across the region, from youth work to protecting the environment. Last year, LLA raised over £45,000 in its first charity partnership year with Macmillan Cancer Support, which was more than we expected to be at this stage of the partnership.
We see improving social mobility and inspiring the next generation of skilled workers as an important challenge facing society today, and that’s why it is at the forefront of our work. We invest in school programmes and youth employment schemes. So far, we have supported 178 participants under the age of 30 through the Get Into Airports programme, and we are proud to see that 81% have gone on to secure full employment.
Through our sponsorship of the Community Business of the Year Award we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the inspirational community businesses in our region.
