Award winning Bedfordshire companies will be the first to hear the details of a new set of awards being organised in the county and sponsored by the county branch of the FSB.

With the much-loved FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards being laid fallow this year and a hard act to follow, the all new SME Bedfordshire Business Awards have been launched to fill the void with the expectancy that they will bigger and better.

Ian Cording, chairman of the Bedfordshire branch of the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses), said: “The FSB is delighted to be the headline sponsor of these new awards. As they no longer bear our brand in isolation, it is much clearer that any business in Bedfordshire will be able to enter and I would give them all every encourage to do so.

“It is also clearer to our target market that they don’t have to be just a “small” business to enter. The definition of an SME – small and medium enterprise – is much more clearly understood.”

To get the ball rolling on the 2017 awards, the organisers, Events & PR, will be holding a Winners Circle gathering at Basepoint in Luton on 23rd November in advance of a formal launch event.

Ian added: “It will be fascinating to see how previous winners of the FSB awards are getting on and of course to communicate the new SME name, encourage them to enter again and to spread the word.

“As the largest business organisation in Bedfordshire, I look forward to hearing even more success stories emerge. I am very excited about this and can’t wait for the launch!”

SME Bedfordshire Awards are part of a raft of awards rolled out under that banner which thus far include the counties of Surrey, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Northants.

Early wedding presents for Nicola at FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards

Friday, July 8, 2016

A Bedford bridal boutique owner who is getting married in September won a hat-trick of early wedding presents at the FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards.

Nicola Weeks, 34, who owns George James Bridal, in Harpur Street, Bedford, scooped the prestigious overall county title as well as the Service Excellence and the Business Person of the Year categories at the prestigious ceremony.

“I am overwhelmed at winning the overall title,” said Nicola, minutes after receiving the award at the black tie dinner at Warren Weir at Luton Hoo Hotel on Thursday (July 7). “I was gobsmacked to win two categories and couldn’t believe it when they called out the name George James Bridal!”

Nicola is no stranger to winning awards. She said: “It has been wonderful for my business. Winning validates your business, giving confidence to people.”

George James Bridal is so successful that it will soon be moving to bigger premises in Bromham Road, to a site opposite Nicola’s old school!

The seventh annual FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards attracted a record number of entrants this year with nearly 220 people enjoying a three course meal and entertainment at Warren Weir at Luton Hoo.

Ian Cording, chairman of the Bedfordshire branch of the FSB, was also the lead judge in a panel of 13 for the awards. He said:

“Win, lose or draw, by being here, you have proved yourselves to be the true business champions.”
